Solar electricity grant Ireland
The Solar PV grant is the most popular SEAI grant. Since the removal of the planning permission for Solar PV panels, over one hundred solar panels have been installed.
The grant is tiered and is capped at €2100 but will be reduced to €1800 from January 2025.
It starts at €800 per kWp system and goes up to 2kWp system; then it's €250 up to 4kWp.
Grant name | Value | Example |
---|---|---|
Solar PV grant | €800 per kWp up to 2kWp | €1600 for 2kWp solar panels |
| €250 for every additional kWp up to 4kWp Total Solar PV grant capped at €2100 | €1850 for 3kWp solar panels €2100 for 4kWp solar panels |

Median Costs
Here is a table that outlines the median costs. Remember from school that the median means the midpoint. Your home may be lower or higher. However, you can still use this knowledge to negotiate with your supplier.
Solar PV Up to 2kWp
House Type | Median Cost | Fixed Grant* |
---|---|---|
Detached | €7890 | €800 |
Semi-D/ End-terrace | €7820 | €800 |
Mid-terrace | €7890 | €800 |

---|---|---|
Detached | €10150 | €250 |
Semi-D/ End-terrace | €9400 | €250 |
Mid-terrace | €8910 | €250 |
Apartment | €8970 | €250 |
*on top of the 1600 up to the cap of €2100
The data is based on 40,118 homes completed through Individual Energy Upgrades (December 2023). The median is the midpoint of all the upgrade costs, where half of the upgrades are less expensive and half are more expensive.
